Statement of Faith Diane Stanton http://ugandapartners.org/?id=491 2009-04-07T03:35:25Z

An Affirmation for Uganda Christian University PartnersUganda Christian University Partners ("Uganda Partners") welcomes as supporters any person who loves God and wishes to contribute to the work of Uganda Christian University in Mukono, Uganda. The following Affirmation is intended to express Uganda Partners' identity within the worldwide Christian and Anglican Church.

PrefaceThe mission of the Church is, according to Jesus' Great Commission, to "go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:19-20). In a fresh commitment to that mission, we join together in common confession of the Gospel and in a radical commitment to support one another in accordance with classical Anglican orthodoxy.

A Common Confession of the GospelThe Gospel and the Triune God. We rejoice in the grace of the Triune God, who has forgiven our sins and given us redemption in Jesus Christ. We proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, fully human and fully divine, who became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, lived a life of perfect obedience to his heavenly Father, died on the cross to atone for the sins of the world, and rose bodily in accordance with the Scriptures. God the Holy Spirit draws us to faith in Jesus Christ, through whom alone we are justified and found acceptable by God the Father.

Christian Obedience. We confess Jesus as the Lord to whom all authority in heaven and earth has been given by the Father. We commit ourselves to follow him and love him above all else and to conform our lives to his example and teaching by the grace of the Holy Spirit.

Holy Scripture. We believe all Scriptures were "written for our learning" (Romans 15:4), that they are "God's Word written," and that we are to "hear, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them." We commit ourselves to regular Bible study and to preach and teach only that which is in accordance with Holy Scripture.

Congregational Life. We hold corporate worship, discipleship, and mission to be interconnected and indispensable aspects of our response to God as he revealed himself to us in Jesus Christ. We are committed to being sacrificially involved in all three aspects of congregational life.

Mission and Missions. The Risen Lord commissioned his disciples to preach the gospel and to follow his commandments. The mission of the Church includes both evangelistic proclamation and deeds of love and service. We commit ourselves and our resources to this mission, both locally and to the uttermost parts of the earth. We affirm our particular responsibility to know, love, and serve the Lord in our local settings and contexts. Since the biblical pattern of witness moves from the local to the global, we will endeavor to be well-informed about our local communities and active in church planting, evangelism, service, social justice, and cross-cultural, international mission, with particular concern for the poor and the unreached peoples of the world.

Historic Faith, Ecumenical Vision. We affirm the Faith of the Church as it is set forth in the Nicene and Apostles' Creeds and in the classical Prayer Book tradition, including those documents contained in the "Historical Documents" section of the 1979 Book of Common Prayer. We further affirm the principles of the Chicago-Lambeth Quadrilateral as an expression of the normative authority of Holy Scripture and as a basis for our present unity with brothers and sisters in the Anglican Communion and for the future reunion of all the divided branches of Christ's one holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

The University Diane Stanton http://ugandapartners.org/?id=492 2009-04-07T03:36:46Z

In the early 1990's, the Church of Uganda decided to found a university to rank alongside Makerere (the state university), and new Roman Catholic and Muslim universities. The retired Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Livingstone Nkoyoyo, brought that vision into reality by founding the Uganda Christian University on the campus of Bishop Tucker Theological College in Mukono, 30 minutes out of the capital city of Kampala.

The oldest seminary in Uganda, Bishop Tucker Theological College was founded in 1923 and is named after the first bishop of Uganda. Most of the bishops of the Church of Uganda were trained at Bishop Tucker.

In October 1997, the University was launched, with the Archbishop of Canterbury, George Carey, laying the cornerstone. Since then, thousands of non-divinity students have enrolled to take bachelor's courses in education, business, social development, and law. Most of them live in dormitories on campus, which are overcrowded with the influx of new students. The Library houses 40,000 volumes and recently added a second library building. In 2000, the Rev. Dr. Stephen F. Noll, from the United States, became the Vice Chancellor. The Archbishop of Uganda, the Most Reverend Henry Orombi, is the University's Chancellor.

For all things are for your sakes, that the grace which is spreading to more and more people may cause the giving of thanks to abound to the glory of God. —I Corinthians 4:15

A Collect for Uganda Christian University

Almighty God, in whom we live and move and have our being, make this school a real community and may whatever is just, pure, lovable and gracious abound and flourish here. Keep for the school an unspoiled name, develop it for wider usefulness; and may we value it as an instrument for bringing glory to your name; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

A Collect for Uganda Christian University Partners

Heavenly Father, we ask you to continue to bless the good works you have begun through Uganda Christian University Partners. We ask that you guide and direct our every thought and action that it may truly be your will and truth that prevail. We thank you for the opportunity to participate in spreading your Gospel to “the ends of the earth.”

The easiest and most direct way you can help Uganda Christian University is to assist a student to pay his or her school fees. Uganda Partners offers several kinds of scholarship assistance, including a General Scholarship Fund which helps the most needy students. Any size donation to this fund is most appreciated. In addition, we offer the following opportunities to assist individual students:

University Designated Scholarships

Each year, UCU designates specific students to receive assistance. These students, usually known by the donors, must be approved by the University Faculty Scholarship Committee. US donors pay a standardized rate regardless of the academic major. Donors have the option of paying tuition and fees only, or including the cost of housing (room and board). To provide a University Designated Scholarship, refer to the Sponsorship Application.Click here for the current fee schedule.

Anglican Communion Scholarships in Theology

Anglican Communion Scholarships in Theology, formerly University Theology, provides students representing each of the 33 dioceses in the Church of Uganda with partial scholarships. In an agreement with the Church of Uganda, UCU trains clergy to offset the increasing number of retiring clergy and the urgent need to build up the Church with well trained, evangelistic pastors to minister to the vast number of congregations throughout Uganda. Scholarships rates vary by degree plan. To provide a Theology scholarship, send your check to Uganda Partners with "Anglican Communion" in the memo or donate online. Click here for current fee schedule and more information.

Scholars & Friends Scholarships 2008-2010

The Scholars and Friends Program consists about 33 students (one from each diocese in the Church of Uganda) and these students are selected in the early fall each year. The students below are ranked according to their overall score on several metrics: Character, Leadership, Faith, and GPA. Additional notes indicate Student ID number, home diocese, and academic major. Please click the link below to see the list of students currently needing sponsorship. Sponsors pay $950 per year which is a partial scholarship toward their tuition, fees and housing costs. To provide a Scholars and Friends Scholarship, send your check to Uganda Partners with "Scholars and Friends" in the memo or donate online.Click here to download the Scholars & Friends List.

Achievement Awards - *New for 2009*

We are pleased to announce a new program called the Uganda Partners Achievement Awards. These awards are presented to the highest achievers who have completed at least one full year and are based upon academic success. The scholarship awards are be $500 for the duration of one year. Each student provides a photo and short biography to be given to the sponsors. The UCU Faculty Committee selects 30 students each year to be the recipients of the UP Achievement Awards. This new program replaces the Scholars and Friends Program; however, Scholars and Friends students who were previously selected will continue to receive those scholarships until they graduate.
